Couples Therapy
As the name suggests, couples therapy involves the issues that arise in relationships.  It is a form of psychotherapy (see our link for a description of psychotherapy) where the "client" is not typically either of the individuals involved in the therapy. Instead, it is the "relationship" that is the therapy client and the individuals involved work with the therapist to help improve the quality and functioning of the relationship.  There are many different approaches to couples therapy.  There are many different concerns that are often brought out in couples therapy, ranging from difficulties with intimacy, financial or job-related concerns, the aftermath of infidelity, or any of the many life stressors that either individual experiences during the course of their lives that contaminate or undermine the healthy functioning of relationship in one way or another.  For further information on couple’s therapy, please access www.aamft.org.
